Miss Elsie Pesha came from Bill-
ings, where she has been attending/
a business college, to be with her-
parents, who live north of Beach.
She will return to her school duties
at six to nine months. At nine
months, babies should be protected
against diphtheria. The first in-
jection of diphtheria toxoid is followed
by a second a month later. At 12
months, the smallpox vaccination is
given if this has not been done soon
after the first two weeks of life.
A smallpox death is a rarity in
North Dakota today, but unless over
90 percent of infants and preschool
children are protected we are apt
to have an epidemic. During 1942
there were 3 lives taken by diptheria
and 17 by whooping cough. These
deaths could have been prevented.
