Christmas trees are grown on soil that doesn't support other crops. Real u'ees can also be reused and recycled after the holidays. Artificial trees are a petroleum- based product that consumes energy resources during fabrication. A bur- den to the environment, artificial trees aren't biodegradable and will remain m landfills for centuries after disposal. The average life span of an arti- ficial tree is only six years. SWA The N.D Department of Health said earlier this month that Southwest Water Authority has been awarded a 2008 Water Fluoridation Award from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Fluoridation is the adjustment of fluoride in the water to a level that is optimal for preventing tooth decay. The award recognizes those water systems that have maintained a con- sistem level of optimally fluoridated water for the calendar year. water quality award !i The CDC recommends water fluoridation as a sate. effective, and inexpensive method of preventing tooth decay in people of all ages.
