The regular meeting of the Billings
County School Board was called to
order at 5:30 p.m. MT Wednesday,
October 12, 2011, at the DeMores
School, with members Darren
Baranko, Dean Rodne, Tina Downing,
Stacey Kessel & Paige Burian, and
Principal Soehren present. Also pres-
ent for all or portions of the meeting
were Matt Larson, Todd Corneil, Laura
Filkowksi, and Rita Denning.
Rodne moved, Burian seconded, to
approve the consent agenda which
included the minutes of the September
14 meeting, the attached check list,
the business manager's financial
report, and the addition of four items to
the agenda. The motion carried unan-
imously.

The Board briefly reviewed resolu-
tions to be voted upon at the NDSBA
convention. Kessel and Downing will
be the voting delegates.
Principal'Soehren reported on the
following: playground safety concerns,
professional development activities,
school improvement, tentative dates
for the formal dinners at each school,
Christmas programs are scheduled for
Dec. 13 at Prairie and Dec.15 at
Medora, enrollments, Halloween activ-
ities at each school, and Digital
Citizenship training. It was decided to
have Soehren check into prices on
fencing for the playgrounds at both
schools.
Matt Larson shared ways he has
incorporated the iPads into the curricu-
lum in his classroom
Baranko moved, Downing second-
ed, to authorize the business manager
to destroy, by means of shredding, the
following records dated prior to June
30, 2006: bank statements, canceled
checks, deposit slips, paid bills, pur-
chase orders, Title Program records,
food service records, Workers'
Compensation reports,
Unemployment Compensation
reports, Teacher and Public Employee
Retirement reports, Social Security
reports, and Federal and State
Withholding Tax reports. The motion
carried unanimously.
No bids were received for furnish-
ing fuel oil to the District.
At 6:20 p.m. the following bids to
furnish propane to the District were
opened: Best Energy for $1.75/gal. for
90 days, and an escalator clause for
the remainder of the term and West
Dakota Oil $1.80/gallon for the full
term. After discussion Kessel moved,
Burian seconded, to accept the bid of
West Dakota Oil. The motion carried
unanimously.
The first reading of two policies with
recommended changes were tabled
until the next meeting.
Mitchell, Burian, and Rodne report-
ed on the Oil & Gas Association annu-
al meeting which they attended in
Medora on October 6.
It was decided to sell the old gener-
ator from Prairie School on bids.
The Board briefly discussed price
estimates on a storage building at
Prairie and concrete work needed at
both Prairie and Medora. It was decid-
ed to accept the proposal of Dakota
Construction for the work at Prairie,
and to find out if the maintenance per-
son, Scott Rask, would be interested
in doing the work at Medora.
Rodne moved to approve registra-
tion and expenses for Rask to attend
an HVAC controls workshop in Rapid
City in December. Burian seconded
the motion and it carried unanimously.
Rodne will be the Board's repre-
sentative to Belfield's October meet-
ing.
Baranko moved, Kessel seconded,
to approve an open enrollment request
from a Dickinson resident to attend
school in Medora next school year.
The motion carried unanimously.
Plans for the staff holiday supper
were briefly discussed.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:10
p.m.

Nursing home is currently facing some financial hardships.
Comments have been made that the Nursing Home is
closing. The Wibaux County Nursing Home Board of
Directors and the Wibaux County Commissioners are
working together to examine all possible solutions.
We want you to know that we are striving together to
amend this situation. We currently have a committee in place
to work on obtaining grants fbr funding items needed at our
home. The committee is also looking into different advertis-
ing methods in hopes that we will be bringing more aware-
ness to surrounding communities of the great Nursing Home
we have here. There are many nursing homes in our area that
are also facing the resident and staffing shortages that we are
currently experiencing. The Wibaux County Nursing Home
is coordinating efforts with surrounding facilities to remedy
this situation for everyone. We are determined to continue to
make.this nursing home a place that your family member can
call home. Quality care remains a priority for our residents.
