Riley and Dale Frieze Administration says it wants to expedite grassland projects WASHINGTON - The Obama administration on Oct. l 1 announced the selection of 14 infra- structure projects around the coun- try that will be expedited through permitting and environmental review processes, a step in the administration's efforts to mlprove the efficiency of federal reviews needed to help job-creating infra- structure projects move as quickly as possible from the drawing board to completion. This announcement comes as a result of a presidential memoran- dum that Obama issued in late August at the recommendation of his Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. The president directed agencies to expedite envi- ronmental reviews and permit deci- sions for a selection of high priority infrastructure projects that will cre- ate a significant number of jobs. have already identified necessary funding, and where the significant steps remaining before construction are within the control and jurisdic- tion of the federal government and can be completed within 18 months. The Little Missouri National Grassland is one of the 14 project areas that are listed. USDA Forest Service is working with an expedited process for reviewing oil and gas applications for wells and ancillary facilities such as pipelines and power lines in the Little Missouri National Grassland. There are approximately 80 applica- tions currently in •file. The expedited process involves early Coordination with the U.S. DepaCtment of Interior Bureau of Land Management. In addition to unveiling the proj- ects selected for expedited review. the administration will also instruct agencies throughout the executive branch to gather information regarding their reviews of infra- structure projects, and the best prac- tices they have developed, New Roosevelt statue to be unveiled Dickinson State University's sixth annual Theodore Roosevelt Sympos!um entitled. "Theodore Roosevelt: In the Arena of the West," along with the 92nd annual meeting of the Theodore Roosevelt Association• will be held Oct. 27-30 in Dickinson and Medora. In addition to the speakers who will give presentations, the sympo- sium will include two events: the world premiere of "ln Cowboy Land." composed by Chris Brubeck and performed by the Bismarck- Mandan Symphony Orchestra; and the unveiling of a new bronze statue of Theodore Roosevelt. created by DSU alum Tom Bollingor; on the site where Roosevelt delivered his first great national speech on July 4, 1886. A number of speakers will pres- ent at the symposium including: Edmund Morris. whose third installment of his Theodore Roosevelt biography, "Colonel Roosevelt," was published this January. Patricia Nelson Limerick. MacArthur grant recipient and author of the groundbreaking, "Legacy of Conquest," will lecture "Majic Bus Tour," this time to about TR's magnum opus, "The Winning of the West:" • Elliott West of the University of Arkansas and author of many important books, including "The Contested Plains." will give a lecture entitled. Brinkley will be hosting a reprise of his famous CWD su00,teillance c:ontinues The state Game and Fish Department will continue its Hunter-Harvested Surveillance pro- gram during the 2011 hunting sea- son. by sampling deer for chronic wasting disease and bovine tubercu- losis from 12 units in North Dakota. In addition, all moose and elk har- vested in the state are eligible for testing. Samples from hunter-harvested deer taken in the central portion of the state will be tested from units 2H. 21. 2J1. 2J2. 2K1. 2K2, 3A4. 3B3 and 3C. In addition, deer will be tested from units 2C and 2D in the northeast, and unit 3F2 in the southwest. Every head sampled must have either the deer tag attached, or a new tag can be filled out with the license number, deer hunting unit and date harvested.
