Cramer in Ukraine this week
BISMARCK - Congressman
Kevin Cramer has extend his inter-
national trip this week with a visit to
Ukraine.
In addition to attending Expo
2017, an International" Fair on "Fu-
ture Energy" in the city of Astana,
Kazakhstan, as part of the presiden-
tial delegation, Cramer will join Sec-
retary of Energy Rick Perry on a trip
to Ukraine.
Perry and a delegation to include
Cramer and Ray Washburne will
meet with Ukrainian President Petro
Poroshenko as well as other Ukrain-
ian officials to discuss improving
both countries' economies through
greater energy collaboration.
"Any day where I get to promote
the North Dakota and the American
brand is "a good day," said Cramer.
"The United States is at a. turning-
point for energy exports, and it's an
honor to be at the table discussing
next steps with Secretary Perry and
many of our key European allies.
Through further exports of American
oil, gas and coal, we're solidifying
North Dakota as an international en-
ergy player for decades to come. At
the same time, we're reducing the
world's dependence on oil coming
from hostile nations, such as Iran or
Venezuela, and anti-competitive pro-
ducers, such as OPEC. It's honestly
a win-win for North Dakotans and
the American people."
The visit by the U.S. delegation
comes only a matter of weeks after
Ukrainian state-run energy company
Centrenergo announced a deal to im-
port 700,000 tons of thermal coal
from the United States for the very
first time. The deal, which was nego-
tiated by U.S. President Trump and
Poroshenko, marks the beginning of
what Trump promises to be a "golden
era" for the American energy indus-
try due to increased exports. "This is
just the beginning," said Cramer.
"We've seen the resurgence of Amer-
ican energy over the last decade -
now the training wheels are coming
off and we're about to see what our
energy industry can really do as a
global powerhouse."

Hello,
When I served in the legislature, I
had a friend that used idioms to often
explain things. Now for those of you
who don't know what an idiom is,
don't feel bad. I had to ask Shirley.
He would often say things like,
"I'm not the sharpest knife in the
drawer" or "I'm not the brightest bulb
in the closet". Sometimes he would
get a little mixed up as many legisla-
tors do. He may have said. "I'm not
the sharpest knife in the. closet". But
we always knew what he meant.
What brought this thought on this
morning is something I learned a cou-
ple days ago.
I'm really kind of a homebody.
Last winter all I wanted for Christmas
was a pressure canner. I could re-
member 60 years ago, going to
Grandma's and eating canned meat. I
loved it.
I asked Shirley for a pressure can-
ner. She had grown up Canning meat
and refused to buy me one. Some-
thing about danger, food poisoning,
explosions, messesl It went on and
on. She didn't buy me one.
So I bought her one for her birth-
day! Problem solved.
Over the winter I canned chicken,
pork, salmon, and beef. I enjoyed
doing it.
The other day I decided I wanted
to can a whole chicken. I googled it
and it ,aid to put the chicken in quart
jars. Seemed simple enough.
Have you ever looked at the size
of a nice fat Tyson chicken? Have you
ever looked at the top of a quart jar?
You see where 1 am going.
But I wanted to do this. I went to
the meat counter and looked at all the
chickens. I went to the canning aisle
and looked at all the jars. I figured if
I bought a real skinny rooster, which
I couldn't find, I could possibly use a
hammer and pound that chicken in.
I was lucky. There was a lady there
buying lids for her canning .jars. You
could see she was a professional can-
ner. There was no standing around

She looked at me with a hint of

have to cut them up."
