On Saturday, Dean and Lisa

Crash claims life south of Belfield
A two-vehicle crash south of
Belfield late Thursday evening,
Aug. 9, claimed one man's life and
left another one injured.
Mickenzie Robertson of
Bowman was traveling north on
Highway 85 in a 2006 Chevrolet
pickup. Patrick Moore, Catholic
pastor at New England and Lefor,
and former abbot from Richardton,
was traveling south on Highway 85
driving a 2003 Pontiac. At mile
marker 59, Robertson appeared to
have drifted into the southbound
lane. Moore attempted to steer into
the northbound lane just prior to
Robertson's vehicle, striking the
vehicle head on. Robertson's vehi-
cle came to a rest into the west
ditch, while Moore's vehicle came
to a rest on the roadway. Both vehi-
cles sustained major front-end
damage. Robertson sustained
injuries and was transported to
Dickinson by ambulance, then
flown to Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Moore was pronounced deceased at
the scene by first responders,
according to a N.D. Highway
Patrol report.
The investigation by the
Highway Patrol is ongoing, and no
charges have been filed at this time.
Golva News By Shirley Schulte
Judging from all of the hustle
and bustle, you can tell that the
school doors are about to swing
open once again, welcoming the
teachers and pupils for another year.
Where did our summer vacation go?
Some remodeling has been tak-
ing place in the Lone Tree Township
Hall. Darla Maus has been busy
cleaning and putting a new coat of
paint on the walls, and some of the
floors have been replaced or
repaired, .so the hall will be ready
for another year of gym classes, ball
practice and athletic games.
The school janitors have been
busy cleaning, stripping and waxing
the floors and moving the desks,
bookshelves and other furniture
items to accommodate the new
classes. The teachers have been
adding personal touches to the
classrooms, and some of the stu-
dents have been enthusiastically
shopping for new supplies.
However, some of the students say
they are in no hurry to get back to
class.
Jerry and Susan (Schulte)
Erlenbusch from Circle, MT went to
Billings on Wednesday. Jerry had a
knee replaced on Thursday. He is in
good spirits and happy he had it
done at this writing. His address is
PO Box #52, Circle, MT. 59215.
While in Beach for the Spirit Of
The West Celebration, several mem-
bers of the softball team that worked
their way up to National competi-
tion in 1978 stopped by the Golden
Valley County Museum to admire
their big trophy, and have a good
time looking through the softball
scrap/photo albums that are dis-
played there. I was told the team
was sponsored by Ken's Exxon of
Beach, and coached by the Marman
brothers. Rose Kreitinger from
Golva, (Now residing in Bismarck)
was a member of the team, and if
memory serves me right, she had to
choose between playing in a game
to compete for a national trophy, or
attending her brother Joe's wedding.
Rose is still active in softball, com-
peting in McQuade tournaments,
and has participated in national
tournaments. Within the last year
Rose was inducted into the National
Softball Hall of Fame at a ceremony
attended by her family, in
Jamestown, ND.
Our community was saddened to
learn that LeRoy Schmitt passed
away. He and his wife Marge
resided at the VVV Ranch, working
for the Weinreis family for several
years, and their children attended
Golva Public School. His funeral
was held at Sidney, MT.
Werner Nistler, Jr. of Portland,
OR. and two of his daughters were
here to attend The Spirit of The
West Celebration, then came to the
Golva area to visit before going on
to Bismarck to visit relatives there.
He attended grade school at Burkey
before his family moved to Beach.
American Cowboy, which plays
nightly during the "Ghost Ride' at
the Medora Musical this season.
Lowman's long affiliation with
the theater company goes back to
the mid-1990s when he worked the
20-minute main act through July
1994 and stepped in to ease schedul-
ing conflicts other years. The center
stage, stand up humorist, also a
visual artist is currently hanging a
display in the rotunda of the Fort
