From the pages of the Sentinel Butte Republican, 100 years ago, July 31, 1913: It is reported that in some pats of the state where groves of trees have been put out, and which afford shelter, that in their vicinity, the crops have not suffered nearly as much from hot weather as in districts where trees are scarce. Lewis F. Crawford received a con- signment of sunbeam trout and perch from the State Hatchery in St. John this week. Three cans were delivered and the fish were planted in the Sentinel Butte lake, one in Kellogg pond, one in Beaver Creek, and three in Knutson Creek. Nine North Dakota opium joints, raided during this week's campaign of the postal men, revealed big plants of the drug, but the prisoners have refused to divulge their sources of supply. Oth- ers attending were Kayla Howard, Landon Lechler, Clara Portscheller, Delbert and Jean Schulte from Glen- dive, Jerry and Susan Erlenbusch from Circle and Larry and Shirley Schulte. At the center of attention was the "kitty litter cake" baked and brought by Susan Erlenbusch (at the request of Kayla, egged on a bit by uncle Jerry.) The big white combine that went through Hebron this past week wiped out what Darrel Schulte described as the best corn crop he has ever raised.
