Grass extreme fire hazard now
Beach volunteer firemen were
called out twice last week, both
times to fight blazing grass fires that
could do thousands of dollars worth
of damage, if not spotted and con-
trolled in time, because of the
extreme dryness of the grass all over
the countryside here. Resident and
tourists are all reminded to be extra
careful frith their matches and ciga-
rettes as well as camp fires, or rub-
bish fires, etc.
Last Friday morning Beach fire-
men sped to the Dominic Kukowski
farm where a fire in the ditch across
the road from the farm was spread-
ing rapidly. They extinguished it,
and then were called out again in the
afternoon to the Duane Wagner
home near the Beach airport.
Burning grass endangered the
house, but was put out before it
damaged any of the buildings.
Fires in rural areas can be real
tragedies - let's all watch carefully
so that none wili be started because
of our carelessness.
