July 28, 2011Page 3 We were shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Senate Majority Leader Bob Stenehjem, He was a dedicated public servant that had served as Majority Leader tbr over a decade. Every day during the legislative session he always made it a point to stop bY my desk early in the morning. He always said the same thing.., "What's hap- pening today?" It became just a routine, but one I will miss." The State Department of Transportation continues to struggle with Highway 22. Just when they thought they had a bypass ready to go, the rest of the highway shifted, cracked, and they were back at square one. Engineers are going to be called in to do bore tests to see if they can find some solid ground that will hold up to the heavy oil traffic. We should have more results in a week or so to determine where the new highway has to go, and how much it is going to cost for the repairs. We have seen disaster after dis- aster hit the state this year starting out with a horrific winter flowed by a May I st blizzard; then the flood- ing started in Bismarck, Mandan, and then Minot. Now we are deal- ing with cattle killing heat waves.
