Local farmers now eligible
for emergency loans
DICKINSON Farmers in
Billings and Golden Valley COUnties
who suffered physical and produc-
tion losses because of flooding that
occun'ed Feb. 14 and continuing may
now apply for Farm Service Agency
emergency loans, Farm Loan
Manager Wanda J. Hoherz said.
Billings and Golden Valley
counties are eligible to make the
loans because it is bordering a
county in North Dakota that was
designated a major disaster area.
The time allowed to .tile loan
applications is eight months. For
Billings and Golden Valley County.
farmers, this means the deadline for
applications to be filed is Feb. 7,
2012.
Although the authority for emer-
gency loan processing has been
given, all potential loan applicants
must be aware that they will be
unable to complete an application
for loan processing until after all
information for their t'arrn operation
pertaining to actual physical losses
and production losses, disaster pay-
ments, to crop insurance benefits,
and to any other crop production
compensation, is awfilable and can
be documented.
Hoherz said farmers who suf-
fered a qualifying production loss
of at least 30 percent from normal
and are unable to get credit else-
where, may apply for reduced inter-
est loans to cover up,to 100 percent
of their losses. The loans carry a
3.75 percent interest rate. To quali-
fy for physical losses, there does
not have to be a qualifying loss
amonnt.
Farmers who think they are eli-
gible may apply for assistance at
the FSA County Office at 2493 4th
Ave. West, Room A, Dickinson,
N.D. 58601-2633.
Farm program deadline
approaching
Producers have until Friday, July
29, to apply for assistance for 2009
crop losses under the Supplemental
Revenue Assistance Payments
(SURE) Program.
The program provides crop dis-
aster assistance payments to eligi-
ble producers on farms that have
incurred m"op production or quality
losses.
"'USDA wants to ensure that all
eligible producers are aware of the
approaching deadline," said Aaron
Krauter, State Executive Director
for USDA Farm Service Agency in
North Dakota. "'SURE covers pro-
ducers on farms in disaster counties
that incurred crop production, crop-
quality losses or both, but in order
to qualify, you need to file in a time-
ly in anner."
