Mach 1 Chevrolet won NASCAR's Delaware
500 at Dover International Speedway. On
that same afternoon, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart
were teenagers. Dale Eamhardt, Jr. was only 11. Now,
those 1985 grandstands have been replaced by a more
modem steel-and-concrete edifice, seating more than
140,000 race fans• Twice a year, they pack the stands
for NASCAR tripleheader weekends featunng the
Craftsman Truck Senes, Nationwide Sedes, and

night's Showrne Southern 500 at Dadington Raceway in
a dramatic green-white-checkered-flag finish. Smith
crossed the fish line .196 seconds atiead of runner-up
