Page 2 March 26, 2009 Bernard J. Schieffer BEACH Bernard Joseph Schieffer, 64, of Beach, went to be with the'Lord on Monday, March 16, 2009, in Glendive, Mont., after a long battle with cancer. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, March 19, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Beach. A Vigil with rosary was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 19, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 aan., Friday, ~arch 20, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. David Richter officiating. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach was entrusted with arrange- ments. Bernard was bom June 3, 1944, in Beach, the son of Herman Joseph and Evelyn Louise (McDanold) Schieffer. He attended the Indian Hills School dufi'ng first grade and Bonnie View School through seventh grade. In town he attended eighth grade at Lincoln Elementary and advanced to Beach High School. During high school, he worked at Christianson's Wrecking Yard and KBM Oilfield ' Service. Bernard went on to attend Chicago Vocational School to study diesel mechanics at Toronto, Canada. He graduated with the class of 1964. On April 16, 1966, Bernard was united in marriage to Judith Gamroth at Beach, and to this union two sons were born: Stacey and Darren. Bernard was employed at Hilger's Chevrolet in Glendive, Mont., and then at Hardy Motors in Beach. He spent one year as a city police officer in Beach. Through the years, he was also employed by Hammond's Motors and Pete's Ready Mix. In 1973, Bernard purchased his own truck and drove Over the road for sev- eral years. He was active in farming from 1979 to 2007. Bernard worked at West Plains Inc, as a mechanic until the time of his death. Bernard was well known for his ability as a mechanic. He loved the challenge of diagnosing and fixing problems on any make or model of vehicle or farm equipment. He liked to read and had a passion for old-time music. Bemard loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending their extracurricular actives, taking them fishing, and taking them for rides in his pedal boat. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, father-in- law, his brother and numerous aunts and tmcles. Bernard is survived by his wife, Judith Schieffer of Beach; his chil- dren, Stacey Schieffer (Jolie) of Circle, Mont.; and Darren Schieffer (Vicki) of Glendive, Mont.; his sister, Carol Weidner and her husband AI of Beach: his nine grandchildren, Mandi Schieffer, Shawn Schieffer,. Landon Schieffer, Amber Schieffer, John Schieffer, Joseph Schieffer, Melissa Schieffer, Shannon Moon and Jaimie Maves; his aunts, Jean Schieffer of Sturgis, S.D.: Grace Finn of Lake Havasu, Ariz.: Anne Wheatley of Billings, Mont.; Florence Weyer of Whitehall, Mont.: Ardis Stedman and Mae McDanold, both of Beach; Lucille McDanold of Glendive; his uncles, Robert McDanold of Beach; Lynn Finn of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; his mother-in-law, Myrtle Gamroth of Butte, Mont.; his in-laws, Wayne Gamroth and his wife Alma; Keith Gamroth and his significant other Karen; Bruce Gamroth and his wife Nancy; Becky VanValkenburgh and her husband Mike; Gloria Schieffer; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
