BELGIUM HAS "NEW KING
Brussels, Feb. 23.--A new king of
the Belgians, Leopold III, was en-
troned today when the former
crown prince took the oath to de-
fend the constitution before both
houses of parliament.
He officially became king, suc-
ceeding his father the late Albert
I, at the conclusion of the reciting
of the oath at 11 o'clock this morn-
tug.
The 32-year-old monarch spoke
the brief oath in French and re-
mated it in Flemish before the
legislators and assembled di&mitar-
ks.
A splendid array of foretsn rep-
resentatives and diplomats in the
lavishly decorated chamber of
deputies, cheered the new ruler
with the same enthusiasm as did
thousands of people who watched
him on his ride to parliament from
the royal castle at suburban Laeken.
Thousands of Belgians ecstatic-
all shout "vive le roi" And,
y tug fs
waving flags an~ handkerchle ,
hailed Leopold II on his triump-
hant ride back to Laeken.

NOT LIKE CHICAGO FIREMEN
We are glad that none of the
Beach firemen are llke some in
Chicago. A press dispatch says: "By
court order issued Friday Mrs. Alex-

her husband, a hook and ladder

The injunction was granted by
Judge Rudolph F. Desert after
Orim's attorney had related how
