More state wrestling action
The Sentinel Butte community
was shocked and saddened to hear
of the untimely death of Scott
Cook. who passed away suddenly
last week.
Many of the Cook family from
out-of-state arrived to attend the
funeral. Among the Jack Cook and
Scott and Lori's were Lori's moth-
er.
Vicky Opfer: Lori's brother:
Dan and Angle O'Conner and
- their son: Scott and Lori's daugh-
ter and son-in-law. Jamie and
Zach Flower, sons, Jon and Bill
Taylor: and Scott's sister and
brother-in-law. Tammy and Tony
Lemos. all from Colorado. Also
friends from the Denver area were
Roy Bouchard. Che Devereaux
and Jason Stickler. all from
Johnstown. Colo.. and Carl
Vanderpuil of Aurora. Colo.
Others who traveled here were
Scott's mother and husband.
Jeanne and Steve Paulson from
Arkansas; Scott's uncle, John
Fillenworth and his daughter,
along with her son, Daphne
Means, and Braden from Kansas
City, Missouri. The family wishes
to apologize to any friends or rela-
tives who may not have been men-
tioned, as there were so many
from all over the country, includ-
ing Montana and North Dakota,
who comfort them.
Darrell Feldmann and his son
Kyle were out at the Don and
Rella Abernethy residence on
Sunday visiting with Don.
Jim and Marj Wyckoff were
among the many who attended the
funeral for Scott Cook on Tuesday.
Don Mattern from Devils Lake
arrived to spend some time with
Don Abernethy while Rella is
recuperating in a hospital in Minn.
Barry and Nancy Schafer
stopped in at the home of Don and
Rella Abernethy, bringing supper
in for Don and his friend, Don
Mattern.
Wednesday, Jim and Marj
Wyckoff traveled to Dickinson
and enjoyed dinner with their son
and family, Tom. Lynn and
Kaitlynn Wyckoff.
Donna and Greg Hickman
arrived Thursday morning at the
home of Donna's mother and sis-
ter. Mary Cook. and Judy and
Terry Mollendor.
The couple plans to spend the
President's Day weekend here
then return to their home in Los
Lunas, New Mexico.
The couple then joined Mary
and sister Jane Cook on a shop-
ping trip to Dickinson. where they
enjoyed lunch at Jack's Family
Restaurant.
Don Abernethy and Don
Mattern stopped in at the Keith
Farstveet home on Friday to play
some cards. Don reported that
" Rella is doing much better, though
testing still has to be done.

On Friday, Darrel and Karen
Schmeling went to Miles City for
medical appointments. They
remarked how pleasant it is to have
good roads to travel in February.
The Boy Scouts held their annual
Pinewood Derby Race upstairs at the
American Legion Club in Beach.
Several Golva youngsters took part
in it. including Chance Manhart.
Kyle Sarsland. and Jacob and Ray
Steiner. It was fun to witness the
enthusiasm of those racing their lit-
tle cars.
On Valentines Day, Alaina
Phalen along with her son. Logan.
who was riding a stick horse, had a
pleasant surprise for several people
around town. The duo delivered a
sack of popcorn to each one with a
cute heart sticker reading "My heart
pops for you - From Logan and
Dylan Phalen"
On Tuesday evening, the girls
basketball team held parents night,
honoring the parents of the seniors.
Kaylene Kreitinger and Brittany
Noll of Golva were among the sen-
iors.
Arlys Kreitinger of Golva met
her sisters. Bev from New Mexico
and RaeAnn from California at the
airport in Minneapolis. It was a
birthday surpnse for their sister
Sandi who lives in Minneapolis.
They had an enjoyable time cele-
brating her "milestone" birthday
Recently, Major Michael
Davidson and his wife spent some
time with his mother. Susan and her
husband Steve Raisler. They were
all supper guests of his brother.
Brent & Nicki Davidson one
evening. Major Davidson is in the
Medic's division of the Air Force,
and will be returning for another
tour of duty in Iraq soon.
Darrel and Heidi Schulte met his
parents at the Bar in Golva for a
quick supper on Wednesday
evening. They were in the area on
business, and had to head back home
to Hebron, but were pleased that
they were able to visit with a few
other friends while they were eating.
Marvin and Arlene Abraham and
their two daughters, Heidi and
Allison flew to Naples, Florida on
Friday to attend their son Dusty's
graduation on Sunday morning at 9
AM. He spent 28 months of inten-
sive training to become an anesthesi-
ologist. Dusty's wife Stephanie,
from Bailey, Colorado was also in
attendance. Dusty and Stephanie
have been commuting back and
forth, and said they are happy he has
finally finished his schooling. It has
been a long couple of years.
We are thankful for the continu-
ing nice winter weather, several of
us are enjoying our outdoor walks
each day. We are covering two
weeks of news this week.
On thursday. Feb 2 we began the
day with mass. tbllowed by exercis-
es and at 10:30 some of us went
downtown with Steve on the bus for
groceries and errands. Twenty six
of us play Bingo in the afternoon
with Lorna and Judy. Lois and
Chuck Miske visited Florence
Miske. Ardy Mattson stopped in to
see Carol Schmeling.
Our Friday morning hair ladies
were Gloria Hendry, Mary Ann
Schillo and Judy Ridenhower. Judy
showed the movie The Princess
Diaries and popcorn in the after-
noon. Shannon Fritz visited with
Loretta Tescher. Pastor JT conduct-
ed our devotions at 4 and Ruthann
Zielsdorf played piano for us.
Frances Kress' visitors were Rona
and Keith Barnaby.
We did our 10:00 exercises on
Saturday morning and enjoyed vis-
iting and coffee in the afternoon.
Sunday morning we had com-
munion in the chapel and 6:30 pm
church services. Fern Hennings
celebrated her birthday. Linda
Hutchins visited Juanita Baird.
Ardyn Mattson led our Monday
morning devotions. We enjoyed our
3 o'clock coffee and goodies in the
dining room.
On Tuesday, Heart River
Hearing was here from l 1 to 2 in the
activity room. We exercised in the
morning after adoration in the
chapel. St. Paul's ladies were here
for Bingo in the afternoon with their
usual delicious lunch! Marcella
Olsen stopped by to visit Juanita
Baird. Phil Sielge was also a visitor
at the manor. Ruby and Les Tisor's
were visited by Eleanor Nistler.
Gloria Ueckert played piano for
Pastor Hojnacki's devotions in the
evening.
We did Valentine crafts in the
afternoon on Wednesday with
Marlene Muarato.

2011 Legislative \\;ssembly expanded

credits for the development of afford-
able housing in Oil Country dUring the

NDHFA has leveraged $3.8 million in
conditional commitments for the con-
struction of 286 affordable housing

Thursday, Feb 9th began with
mass in the chapel, followed by
exercises and shopping and errands
downtown on the bus. We played
card games and Rummikub in the
afternoon with Judy.
Friday morning hair ladies were
Mary Ann Schillo. Judy
Ridenhower and Judy Vincent. We
had a great turnout in the afternoon
for "Char's Day" pie and coffee.
Ardyn Mattson visited Carol
Schmeling.
Jenelle Lyster celebrated a birth-
day Saturday. We had our morning
exercises and afternoon coffee.
Sunday morning began with
communion in the chapel. Several
of us played cards and games in the
dining room with our afternoon cof-
fee. Joann Jablonski and Ruth
Barnaby came to see Mary Job.
Mary Barthel and Christine Stewart.
Loretta Tescher's visitors were Gary
and Ardis Tescher. Evening church
services were held in the chapel.
Becky Weinreiss had our
Monday morning devotions and
shared Valentine chocolates with
us! Bonnie Farstveet was a visitor
of Loretta Tescher's.
Tuesday morning began with
exercises followed by adoration.
We enjoyed Valentine's Day with a
"Celebrate Chocolate" party! We
sampled several different kinds of
chocolate and voted on our favorite!
Nancy shared a reading about the
origins and customs of Valentine's
Day, some Valentine trivia, poems
and we visited about our Valentine's
Days past and memories over coffee
and cupcakes. Judy Ridenhower
from the Beach Evangelical church
led our Tuesday evening devotions
in the chapel.
The Public Health Nurse was in
from 9 to 12 on Wednesday morn-
ing. We had "Fun with Food" with
Marlene in the afternoon.
Our featured resident of the
week is Mary Barthel. She was
bom in Bismarck, ND on October
29th, 1949. She went to
Kindergarten and 1 year of elemen-
tary school at the Barthel School 9
miles south of Golva, then traveled
with her mother who was a travel-
ing teacher. She went to a no-name
school for her 7th and 8th grade and
high school in GolYa. After high
school she milked cows with her
father until she saved enough
money. She did child care for her
brother in Denver, Colorado for
about 2 years and then she went to
her brothers in Deadwood SD for
about 2 years. She came back to
Golva to milk cows to help her
father for 10 years. She then went
to Miles City to work and to
Minneapolis after that where she
met her husband in the cafeteria
there. They dated for 2 years and
were married in Minneapolis and
lived there for the next 19 years.
They had Dorothy while they lived
there and she and her daughter
moved to Wibaux to be close to her
sister. She has 6 older brothers'and
sisters living." Her daughter live;in
Glendive, Montana and has 2 chil-
dren, grandson Hunter is 4 and
granddaughter Hadley is 2. Mary
moved to the manor in June of
2011. She says she really likes liv-
ing at the manor and especially
enjoys Bingo.
