CARBON MONOXIDE
IS WINTER HAZARD
WOULD GIVE STATE
IRRIGATION FUNDS
A bill introduced in congress
by Rap. Reva Beck Bosone of
Utah is of considerable interest
Dakota irrigationists.
Winter is dangdr time, especi.
ally for carbon monoxide gas
poisomng. Each year many peo-
ple lose their lives because of
this unno|ieed po~son gas.
John Zaylskie, NDA~ Exten-
sion Service forestew and safety
specialist, says records of the
North Dakota Division of Vital
Statistics, show that 5 people
lost their lives f, rom gas poison-
ing in 1949. In 1950 carbon
monoxide killed 9 people.
Included in the deaths from
carbon monoxide poisoning was
a 2-year-old child who died
while riding in a motor vehicle
traveling on a highway. Other
sources of gas poisoning are
fumes from stoves, auto ex-
hausts, from checked hard coal
ra/tges, stalled automobiles, gas
in wells and faulty operation of
oil stoves.

The loans would be repayable

40 years. The $5,000,000 author-
ized by the bid would be used as
a revolving loan fund.
The federal government would
pay outright the share of the
cost allocated to flood control.

The projects would be under
