Lady Bucs win No. 15 by downing Tigers
NEW ENGLAND - The Beach
Buccaneers again had four players
in double figures led by Kelcee
Dykins' 26 points to pick up their
15th win of the season. Along with
her 26 points, Kelcee grabbed nine
rebounds in the win 75-35.
Three other players scored in
double figures with Hailee Farstveet
collecting another double-double,
netting 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Channa Clarin was next in line
with a career high of 12 points.
Channa began the game high in the
air to get the first touch of the game
ball by getting the opening tip of the
game. She was also the last by
grabbing a missed shot in the air by
Ashlynn Dietz and tipping it in at
the final buzzer. Her teammates
sprinted to her side with smiling
faces as if they all had won a cham-
pionship game and she made the
game winning shot.
The Running Bucs came out on
fire with all five starters getting into
the score book. Kelcee Dykins and
Hailee Farstveet led the 25-point
surge combining for 16 of the 25
point quarter. Bailey Waldal,
Channa Clarin and Cydni Stedman
combined for the other nine points.
It was a very unselfish effort with
good passes resulting into baskets.
The 2nd and 3rd quarters were
also good quarters, with the
Buccaneers continuing their domi-
nance with substitutions going in
and out of the game. Although they
did not put many points on the
scoreboard, they did provide good
chemistry for their team, This
chemistry is going to be important
going into the upcoming post sea-
son run.
The fourth quarter was played
evenly with Cydni Stedman leading
all scorers with four points.

Beach defeats Wibaux
Going into the Tuesday, Feb. 8,
game with the Longhorns, the
Buccaneers knew that it was going
to be a much different game from
their last one in Beach. Beach won
that game in a decisive manner 72-
38.
Kelcee Dykins and Cydni
Stedman combined for 11 of the 13
first quarter points, taking an early
five point lead after the first quarter
of play 13-8.
Beach outscored Wibaux 16-11
in the second quarter only with two
different Buccaneer players (Bailey
Waldal and Hailee Farstveet) com-
bining for 12 of the 16 second quar-
ter points. The Running Bucs took
a 10-point lead at the halfway mark,
29-19.
Both teams came out in the third
quarter scoring their best outputs of
the game. Wibaux scored 16 points
led by a pair of threes from Marisa
Sokoloski and six points from
Sydney Schieffer. The Buccaneers
answered with 18 points led by
again, senior Kelcee Dykins, with
nine points.
The Bucs continued pushing the
ball down the floor with five differ-
ent players scoring 17 points com-
pared to the Longhoms' eight.
Again, the Buccaneers used bal-
ance to win their 14th game of the
season. Four players were in dou-
ble figures like most of their games
this season. Senior Kelcee Dykins
and sophomore Hailee Farstveet
had game highs of 17. Cydni
Stedman scored 14 while Bailey
Waldal had another quiet 10.
The Bucs had another good free
throw night netting 10 of 13 from
the charity stripe. Their last two
games with Trinity and Wibaux
they have made 26 of 33 for 78.8
percent.

In the month of January we wel-
comed: Dorothy Adams, Fern Bacon,
Rose Gasho, Richard Mosser,
Margaret Allen, Paul Barthel and
Adolph Lane Glad to have you and
your family join ours.
Fern Bacon and Adolph Lauf
stayed for a short recuperative time
and then went home. Floraine
Geving moved to a Baker nursing
home to be closer to her family.
The nice weather has been a good
time for visitors to stop by and just
mingle around stopping by to visit
with several residents.
Several families have come and
celebrated their loved one's birthdays
with a private gathering. We encour-
age families to let us know, and we'll
do what we can to help set up for your
special event. Whether it's a bildaday,
family get-together or any time you
want to get together, please feel wel-
come to do so.
Bob Erickson had his family come
and celebrate his birthday on Feb. 4.
Jim Bacon and Ethel Brengle will cel-
ebrate on the 17th of Febmary. Staff
February birthdays are April
Kiedrowski and Sandy Helvik.
Dave Bertelsen, at the Extension
Office, brought a 4-H exchange stu-
dent, down to present her travels to
the United Kingdom. Dave has been
good about sharing these people and
the residents always enjoy hearing
about their travels and seeing the pic-
tures. It makes them feel like they
Deanna Schneider came on
Saturday to help her mother, Donna
Sygulla, move to the Golden Valley
Manor. Several other "little elves"
have been giving her a hand in
moving and storing her belongings.
Donna injured her hand a few
weeks ago, so she sure appreciates
all the assistance she has been get-
ting and is enjoying her new home.
Deanna left on Sunday to return to
her home in Garrison.
Four youngsters from Golva
qualified in the Knights of
Columbus District Free Throw
Contest and will advance to region-
al competition. Brannon Davidson
qualified in the 10-year-old boys
division. Madison Schantz quali-
fied in the 10-year-old girls divi-
sion. Cayden Sarsland qualified in
the l l-year-old boys division, and
Breenna Davidson will compete in
the 12-year-old girls division at the
regional competition at 1 p.m. on
Feb. 26 at Trinity High School in
Dickinson.
Super Bowl Sunday, Paul and
Mary Lee Schmitz and Christine
Finneman were guests at Gary and
have been there. Say, a little mini
vacation, places we will never get to
go.
The residents have been busy writ-
ing out their Valentines to each other
for the Valentine boxes. The staffalso
brings Valentines and drops them in
the decorated boxes. The residents
will have a Valentine Party with a
special snack and go through the
boxes.
As you saw in last week's Wibaux
Pioneer-Gazette the Bucks for Boilers
Project has now raised over $45,000.
We've put a thermometer out in front
of the Nursing Home to help keep
track of the donations. Our staff is
collecting change in a big jug at the
Nursing Home and can wear jeans on
Mondays - as long as we contribute
$2 to the fund.
The cookbook is at the printers.
We are hoping for delivery around the
end of February or the first week in
March. We will have a booth at the
Health Fair in March to have our
books on display. Any cookbooks
that have been paid for may be picked
up at the Health Fair. Otherwise, you
will have to come to the Nursing
Home to pay for your book. No
money will be exchanged at the Fair.
The cost of a book will be $15, and
we are proud of the way our book has
turned out. Remember, the recipes
are from past and present residents
and employees and we finished with
over 350 recipes. The proceeds will
go toward flooring projects at the
Nursing Home.
This year I am going to post
memorials which have been given to
the Nursing Home. The memorials
can be designated for a specific cause,
or placed in the Mom Keys Fun Fund
- example purchases; special meals,
birthday and Christmas presents,
Mother's and Father's Day corsages
and boutonnieres - just to name a few
things. The Endowment Fund -
monies are used to purchase things
for the use of our residents we nor-
mally couldn't purchase. Or some
prefer the monies to go to something
completely different. For instance,
one family purchased more padded
folding chairs to be used for visitors,
while another preferred pictures for
the hallways, or one family preferred
the monies go toward something spe-
cial for the staff. The memorials are
very much appreciated and we put the
funds toward whatever is requested.
Robert and Dixie Justice gave a
memorial in memory of Dorothy
Adams, and R. Duane Mullet gave
one in his mother's name Helen
Mullet.
We received information from the
U.S. News and World Report that
Wibaux County Nursing Home out of
15,500 homes is once again in the top
40 nationwide. What an honor. We
expect our state surveyors anytime, so
we'll be anxious for their results again
this year.
Michelle Hardy's home. Christine
reports that her "girls" didn't make
any bets on the game, and no fist
fights broke out; they just enjoyed
the good food and visiting.
On Wednesday, Doris and Mike
Berger traveled to Bismarck to visit
with family, and keep medical
appointments. They returned home
on Friday.
Jeremy Schmitz of Bismarck
came to Golva on Friday to pick up
grandpa Paul and grandma Mary
Lee Schmitz. The trio traveled to
Savage, Mont., where they attend-
ed a basketball game Friday
evening. It was parents' night, and
Jeremy's daughter, Marilee
Schmitz, who is a senior, was play-
ing.
