Time to Take Stock
and Lay Plans
for the Future
Again we are arriving at the end of
another year--that milestone of time
which we pass so often--and soon
tqgain it will be time to "take stock,"
or inventory our possessions.
As has been the case the last few
years, most of us who have cast our
lot with agricukture wilt again be
disappointed and saddened when the
results of our year's labor are cast up.
The disastrous drouth of the past
year has added to our already over-
burdened condition and multiplied
our economic problem.
Ever since the World War American
agriculture has been going down bill.
Our debts have increased, taxes have
become more. wl~ile our income has
gradually become less and less. Most
of us have used up our credit and
are about at the "end of the rope."
With such a condition as we have to
face, we are lip against the necessity
of planning our future more carefully.
There was a time when. to a more or
less degree of success, we could do
~ueh planning individually, bug that
time ~eems to have passed. Those
who thought that they were strong
and could take care of themselves
~mve fallen by the wayside. There-
fore, it has come to the place where
we must plan collectively with our
neighbor as well as individually.
After we have done all we can to-
ward planning for the needs of the
tmmily table by providing vegetables,
meat, fruit, eggs, milk, etc., and then
come to the raising of the necessary
obligations, we must plan and work
with our neighbor.
To this end we should interest our-
J~lve.s in organization, for only by be-
;trig well organized can we become ef-
fect/re. Help to revive and strength-
en your local class organization if you
have one; if not, organize your local
c~n~rnunity at once. Then see that
Fottr group is working with your state
a~ad national organization, This is
neee~ary in order that you may help
to pool the power and influence of
agriculture.
